gilbert13: fold shelf

how the perforations are laid out on the sheet of steel
UK designers angela and mark gilbert of studio gilbert13, have designed fold shelf,
a metal shelf made from a single sheet of steel, which is hand folded into shape via
laser cut perforations.
the form of the storage unit, draws on plant growth and structures. it is efficiently produced
using a minimal manufacturing process which means there are no visible joints or welds.
the laser cut perforations of this asymmetric design appear as if they have been stitched
providing a crafted and tailored aesthetic against the cold, hard feeling of the metal.
angela and mark gilbert aperitivo tower was a shortlisted winner of designboom's
it's aperitivo time competition.
