selected international designers and young students have been brought together to illuminate
the city of milan, for the international festival of lights. they have transformed the city into an
open air stage of lighting installations, screening, theatrical productions and contemporary art
and design.

one of the participating designers is patricia urquiola whose spiro gira lights are installed along
corso vittorio emanuele near milan's duomo. urquiola's forms look like corseted frames influenced
by twists and twirls, like those that children draw, turned into three-dimensional
illuminated objects.
