maaike roozenburg: dutch roots



dutch designer maaike roozenburg has created a series of christmas ornaments that pay tribute to ancient
dutch root vegetables and tuberous plants. maaike explains ‘scraggy, unsightly and growing underground
they are the forgotten vegetables of the modern kitchen.  i want to enhance the beauty of these old
vegetables by rendering them in porcelain like pieces of curiosity and rekindle the honest yet scraggy
beauty of the earth.’ the ornaments depict a jerusalem artichoke, beetroot, parsnip, turnip and the potato,
among others in the collection of 24 pieces. the ornaments are currently on show at the moooi gallery in
amsterdam.
