abhijeet kumar's black and white chair is constructed from bamboo. the bamboo,
dendrocalamus strictus has been turned on the lathe and assembled using round tenons.
the ropes used to form the seat and back support of the chair are woven from waste
discarded by a t-shirt factory.
the structure of the chair has been designed so that it stackable. the seat and backrest have
a gentle curve to fit the body of the sitter, emulating the comforts of an upholstered chair
through simple weaving.
kumar also designed the 'welcome chair' which features mesh upholstery that is stretched
over a frame.
