emilio marin and claudio magrini: modular tree installation

emilio marin and claudio magrini: modular tree installation

installation of urban trees and bird houses

back in 2008, chilean architects emilio marin and claudio magrini collaborated on an
artistic installation for a competition. the result was a public intervention of modular trees.
the tree bases have openings in which branches with bird houses and perches can be
inserted in various arrangements creating an area in which birds can circulate
and flock towards. the project won first place and has now been realized in the
santiago valley, chile.

I don't really see the point. Why not plant a real tree? This on itself will provide better shelter for birds...
Ruben   01.24.10
I totally agree with Ruben.
nur   01.24.10
If I would be a bird I would prefer to die than go to live near the highway in a nest shaped like human house... plus being red I would definitely believe is a trap of an hunter ...= completely pointless.
damiano   01.24.10
It's just an art installation, when I read the article this morning I started to visualize birds, cities, trees,
architecture and different realities,

well I like it
Gustavo   01.24.10
I think Ruben don't understand the value of unique things.
arqshow.com   01.24.10
Coooooool!
Niki   01.24.10
Really, it's about time that the human race has figured out a way to rid us of that pesky leaf problem.

Now, if we wrap the whole thing in carpet, we can let the cats climb it and rid us of that pesky bird problem.

Then, ...

Ahh, Sunday Afternoon Design Critiques.
Mushi   01.24.10
Mushi, thanks for the laugh! Yes, I'd rather see a few actual trees...
theresia   01.24.10
crap. birds will hate it.
frank   01.24.10
one of the most stupid idea ever. how do they think the birds will came?....
luis   01.24.10
Stupid thing, better real trees!!!!!!!!! Put in your house the value of unique things.
Nacho   01.25.10
emilio and claudio, congrats for your poetic point of view! Let us fly, and birds come in! :)
Juliana   01.25.10
We need to know if birds actually use it...!
Chend   01.25.10
the nature no need this kind of useless devices, is too ornamental.
each tree is a complex universe maybe this artist dont understand how works the natural sistems.
why spent money in this kind of crap!
mil   01.25.10
I like it a lot. Think how much easier it will be for bird watchers to concentrate on watching the bird without it dodging about in the leaves.

Las únicas aves van Que a usar esos "Arboles" Son los pollos asados, se imaginan allí Dentro de ese horno a todo sol? Los hornitólogos esperando morirán.
javier (chile)   01.26.10
However, this trees can "grow" from concrete.
Instalation would be better (logical) in non-natural landscape
anonimus   01.26.10
Why *wouldn't* they want to make these? A surprise is healthy every now and again.
B. Freitag   01.26.10
Estoy de acuerdo que una sorpresa hace bien, pero entonces hablemos de una escultura Pero no digamos que les servira a las aves, de eso nada.
javier (chile)   01.26.10
why.!!!!!!!????????

I think it can be use for lands that has lemur flora..
nature doesnt grow up trees all around the world..

ps: not include deserts :D
Derin   01.29.10
it appears that the idea of an art installation is not well understood
doc   01.30.10
WONDERFUL & SMART IDEA!! It's hard for some people to think outside the box but this has artistic, social, and environmental merits.

When a place has been over-industrialized, no one cares about planting a few trees...nor would those few trees do anything to bring back nature.

However, if a cost effective visual installation can appeal to nature (e.g. by allowing birds to rest-stop during their migration route) it will attract attention and appeal to people in the area and society at large. This would possibly bring attention to the real underlying issue. Should this area attract enough birds this area can therefore be declared as a sanctuary which then brings in trees enough for a real park...

...and that, my friends, is why this silly little idea is so terribly brilliant.
lanvy   01.30.10
is it an hunting area? would make sense
alan   01.31.10
Great installation piece. Love the idea.
Real trees are always better but I think these metal trees, with the addition of "leaves", could be a perfect solution as replacements in areas where trees have been poisoned (a terrible and selfish act of vandalism to increase land value). The metal tree will provide the shade that has been lost from the destruction of the original tree.

humans destroy nature, then recreate it and they call it ART(I know that maybe emilio & claudio didn't cut trees for their instalation, but the soil is ravaged, so no worms for the birds for a wile,by the way, iron come from enviro-friendly mines? I hope it's recycled, if not...gulp!). If you want a park with real trees then send a letter to the responsibles of that area, inform people, teach them so they can be conscious. Protect Nature, dont try to replace it. I'm a little bit sick of fake stuff
