frederique morrel needlework sculptures

life-size trophy sculptures covered with vintage found needlework

french company frédérique morrel exhibited 'the slice of life' - 'passe murailles' collection
at paris 2010 maison et objet.
all pieces are hand made - giving each animal their own character.
the husband and wife team says: 'our products have been carefully re-made using
vintage needlework saved from oblivion in the interest of the redemption of the
painstaking work involved in their original creation. when wandering around
markets or garage sales we're often very saddened to see discarded embroidery.
we think about the love, time, craftsmanship and patience that went into creating
such beautiful things and find it so sad that they end up unwanted and for sale
for a few dollars. all of those wonderful tablecloths, doilies and cushions and the
skills that are evident in those discarded things are in danger of being
lost to future generations.
'

made from polyurethane taxidermy molds, covered in vintage needlework and finished with real antlers

an interesting concept to recycle these and other un-justly, un-recognized, anonymous and devalued artifacts

each product is one-of-a-kind, using a unique combination of tapestries or tapestry pieces, assembled in order to create an interaction between themes

cool creations by frédérique morrel

pure serendipity ?

These are wonderful!

But why are comments on Karim Rashid closed? When will you stop giving press to his BAD, POOR, UGLY designs - this only serves to encourage him. Thankfully these things are never to be seen again after the trade shows. I remember a certain pink flocked chair for someone or another at ICFF -UGH!

Really interesting. Would love to know more about the process. Are they using real taxidermy? Plastics? Styrofoam? The horns appear to be real but the hoofs look questionable.
Snidely Whiplash   01.28.10
I saw these at Printemps in Paris over the holiday season- they were stunning!
