ice carafe by rostislav materka

'ice carafe'

the 'ice carafe' was designed by rostislav materka and produced by marienberg located
in north bohemia, czech republic. marienberg is the german name of a small village
and hill (marianska hora) in the jizera mountains, an area with a long tradition of glass
manufacturing (since the 16th century). all of marienberg's products are hand-made
in the czech republic and all of the collaborating designers are also masters in glass making.
this combination guarantees the right balance of art, craft and 'genuine czech design'.
the young designer rostislav materka has done collaborations for a few years now
and has shown his most recent work 'ice carafe' at the czech selection/10
at paris maison et objet 2010.

the simple idea of this ice carafe is that ice keeps floating on top of the liquid and will not
pass through the very thin spout

It is pure functionalism. The spout shape is very traditional for mouth blown glass.
