kristine bjaadal: underfull

'underfull' table cloth

norwegian designer kristine bjaadal exhibited 'underfull', a tablecloth design at greenhouse
during the stockholm furniture fair 2010. at first glance, the tablecloth appears to be a traditional
white floral damask but reveals a hidden pattern when wet. this conceptual piece draws
on the idea that every negative situations should be turned into a positive experience.
everyone at some point is bound to spill a drink, however, instead of feeling embarrassed,
he/she can now feel fortunate.

bjaadal believes that this creates stories and can contribute in giving the products
sentimental value – important in a society where we seem to have an increasingly superficial
relations to the objects we surround ourselves with. through her designs, she tries to make
the user sense another human being behind the product, and focuses on giving the user
positive experiences over time. video

Nice but some other designer did the exact same thing in 2006 : Nappe Ronde from Madeleine Montaigne.

This solution is way better than the other ones.

It's nothing wrong with being inspired by others, as long as you do it better!
anchel   02.16.10
