studio muungano: baufrica

after working in africa for a few years, swedish designer peter thuvander
and architect martin hedenström from studio muungano are bringing african colors
and patterns to their designs and mixing them with the forms and functionalism of the
german bauhaus period.

the furniture is based on a modular system composed of waxed ash, multi-coloured
lacqueered tubar steel and upholstered with grey felt. the different components can be
made into an easy-chair, sofa, table or a lamp.

'baufrica' was seen at the greenhouse talent show during stockholm furniture fair 2010.

the light is filtered through the ash-veneer to make it softer.
the pattern only appears when you turn on the lamp.
