‘the housemates' is the latest project by london based designer tithi kutchamuch and frequent collaborator
nutre arayavanish. the project takes inspiration from the art of insect collecting. while rare insects are
sold for thousand of dollars at auctions, kutchamuch and arayavanish thought about doing the same for
common insects. ‘the housemates’ is a collection of 6 unrare insects found in the home: the caterpillar,
ant, spider, fly, fruit fly and cockroach. each insect is made using folded meal sheet and then plated with
14 karat gold. the insects have each been pinned through their chest using standard insect collecting pins,
that once bent can be used to wear the insects as brooches.
