lorenzo damiani at triennale

italian designer lorenzo damiani is known for infusing an element of surprise into his products.
the possibility of combining several types of objects and functions into a single artifact
is the common thread amongst his pieces. an exhibition displaying his career works
to date was shown at the triennale milan.

'mondo' for cappellini, 2008
wool and viscose rug made by the tufting technique

the decoration is based on a classic persian design in an allusion to the historic home
of carpet making and a floral pattern. the presentation of the continents in a mirror
image is meant as a reflection on the precarious nature of the balance between the rich
and poor parts of the planet.

'raccordi', 2007

set of vases made out of gray plastic pipe connectors used in plumbing and tubes of
pyrex glass with a diameter of 11cm. the intention was to tackle the 'high' world of the
decorative art, in its most classic form, the vase, using components designed for
a completely different purpose.

'onlyone' produced for IB rubinetterie, 2006

the 'onlyone' range of faucet uses a theme of bending pipes and circular profiles to juxtapose
disciplined geometry with the free flowing water. the onlyone faucet stands tall, and then
sweeps back down at a dramatic 45 degree angle giving the water free reign.
