in the past, the walking stick was regarded as a status symbol on top of its essential function.
today, they are seen mostly as a functional item that the user does not necessarily carry with pride.

the het labo designers' co-operative together felt it was high time we rethink the practical tool
and give it some new connotations. together with design vlaaderen, they have brought together
a collection of walking sticks for the 'let's stick together' exhibition. approximately 80 international
artists and designers present more than 100 different visions of the walking stick, from traditional
interpretations to industrial examples, ranging in function from practical to the purely conceptual.
