yuval tal for studio ooga

'bottle #600' and 'bottle #750'

'bottle #600' and 'bottle #750' by israeli designer yuval tal is a family of two carafes designed
for israel-based studio ooga. meant to serve water, wine or any other beverage, the concept behind
the bottles is based on the idea of using traditional materials and technologies in a different combination.
the iconic shape of a standard wine bottle is maintained, while a new division is made between
the vessel and the cork top. here, the cork becomes an integrated part of the bottle design
rather than just a simple tool for preserving your beverage.

boring.....virtual tricks for usual shapes, nothing new....
cma   02.25.10
i actually quite like it... but it is a bit pointless and impractical. How can you pour? And why is it needed. Maybe designers need to stop creating solutions to problems that aren't there.

I think design is not always about super ultra mega amazing proposals... some times easy and light design like this can be interesting... I really like this project, especially if it focuses on recycling...

i like! Great use for places like minimal eatery/new concept hotels where water and menu can be served at the same time with the same vessel. Functional design is not always about forcing the use; what makes this interesting it that the concept forces the user to think and contribute to the idea of usage.

@DML, @CMA: open your eyes to possibilities. Dont wait for the designer to tell you how to embrace their ideas, find a way to make it useful to you.

we have the deficit of the cork-tree! and then come something like this... congratulation! :(

@mona
My thoughts exactly. Hasn't the wine industry been frantically looking for an alternative to cork for sealing their bottles? Maybe we could add some Snowy Owl feathers into the mix somewhere as well? How about a Hummer edition?

to mdl & cma (& all snot-nosed lil' morons around here)

sick and tired of this kind of bad vibes. who the f... are u people to keep patronizing others work this way? can u only afford such contempt? why don't u get yourself a dictionary and look for definitions like "humility", "respect", "empathy", "constructive thinking"?

I do like it. Quite much!

even if this product is nice and well made, to many designers create new low budget products for the mass market.
I'm sure it will be a good seller (-:

in sardinia in italy there is so much cork, that people don't know what to do with it. I'm sure that this is the same situation for other places.
this is A GREAT use!

The first comment usually sets the tone in most blogs. I am so glad that is not the case here. I thoroughly love this design. I am not of the school of thought that design must be functional. The unusual chemistry between forms is enough of a rush for me. I certainly want to have a few of those in my home.

Get off you high horse. Public displays must bear the burden of public opinion, even when it contradicts yours. If you want a forum that promotes only positive things that meet your personal approval, censor your own forum.
Dan   02.26.10
I agree Dan,

By posting my full name on a blog entry with the same but a more indepth critical view as 9/10 bloggers on a certain design piece, another blogger calls my view spam and looks up a reference to my work and tries to identify me in some sought of semi-criticism/threat. I've had it with these delusional wannabe designers/groupies who want to joyously proliferate the world with their wasteful ways and think nothing of the consequences.

As you've highlighted if they can't handle an opposing valid view then they shouldn't subscribe to the world of design.

kitsch...kitsch...kitsch...who wants to tell me otherwise?
gimmy   02.27.10
Wound't the minimal amount of cork/glass contact and exposure to contraction and expansion in accordance with humidity and condensation reduce the viability of a useful seal? Just seems like the material necessity ratio is way out on this, obviously it's design for designs sake and not meant to be taken seriously....
