wooden wedges
japanese-born and denmark-based designer yukari hotta, graduate from the danish design school,
has made a nice and simple bookcase that can be assembled solely by using wooden wedges.
no extra metal fasteners are used at all.

seriously ikea should take a look at these kinds of designs to save the massive frustration of assembly from their customers. also, think of how many returns they can avoid because people over turn screws and crack the particle board. great practical design that's good for the people.

While interesting, the bookshelves I have are hinged sides and backs. They collapse in one piece and they are stackable. d;-)

Yeeah.. I like it even if the concept / joints are not a new innovation. But in the end, old innovations are often better than all kind of new ones, torx, Philipps a.s.o. message to Merv, it is probably more than 10 000 years old innovation, they used his kind of solutions in Egypt / Inkas, and all the other places with civilisations. and in stone age aswell.
