architectural balenciaga shoes

architectural balenciaga shoes

the latest fall winter collection by the paris fashion house balenciaga features footwear that takes an
architectural approach, mixing block heels with a collage of materials. the collection was designed by
pierre hardy to match the high-tech materials of nicolas ghesquiere's clothing designs. the shoes are made
from a full range of materials that includes leather, wood, plastic, metal and a few newer high tech
materials. the designs feature classic forms like the loafer and brogue, reinvented with the square heels
made from collaged bits of plastic that are reminiscent of memphis design. the front of the shoes also
have plastic elements tacked on underneath to raise them up. other designs even have slip-in style front
that take a design cue from water ski bindings.

certainly tres wierd.but not uninteresting...
hmm   03.24.10
Interesting idea... but I'd rather see more 21st Century functionality to go with that added architectural bulk...
Melia Arhrt   03.24.10
I love them <3 though i wish they were somthing a women could wear every day
Eleni katavolos   03.25.10
Toes sticking out part of design?
LocoNovo   03.25.10
what about thinking comfort as part of the functional part of the design!?
Shoes that are 4" and up are NOT comfortable, and are plainly unhealthy. So design for weirdness sake at the cost of function is not OK with me.
These shoes are bought and worn a handful of times for periods no longer than 2 hours...how's is that remotely functional? The most absurd part is that is the norm to design pretty to look at shoes that are totally useless.
Maria   03.25.10
this is offensive to architecture
e   03.25.10
Maria, see dictionary under 'glamour'
dont sweat, its an entirely optional way of living, nobodys forcing you to ditch your sackcloth and birkenstocks
but believe it or not, some people actually find it 'fun'
gaga   03.25.10
I beg to differ with "e" and "Maria". Many great architects create buildings which are not functional. You have to understand that the people who created these shoes came from an ascetic point of view, not an actual functional shoe--and out of all honesty these shoes COULD be worn, sacrificing comfort. If you want shoes that are comfortable, go to the mall and buy some UGGs. And as a side note: for all you know these shoes could comfortable. So before you assume, do some research.

Let me restate: these shoes are art.

hm. I like the pants, second from the bottom.

not sure if they're 'architectural' but they are unique.
sunny   03.26.10
I loved is unique and very futurista!!!
ana botelho   03.27.10
put some wheels on as well
a balcony would be fine
or an espresso machine
frankperson   03.27.10
@Taylor "aesthetic" i think you mean

but i'm on your side. beauty is in the eye of the beholder and you don't have wear what you don't want to. they're different and i like them

has some nice elements. but all together... i donno.... less but better would have been nicer to look at. all i wanna do is like take certain elements off. but high five for attempt!
///   03.29.10
taylor. IF the right industrial designer worked on these, these shoes could be very comfortable (as comfortable as heels can be)
///   03.29.10
i would wear these on the street and you would want to wear them too
------   03.29.10
its almost like they ran out of ideas and had to over do it ......
