'aurora' lighting installation

'aurora' is a mix media lighting installation that draws its influence from the natural
phenomenon of northern lights. this sculptural piece created by peruvian interdisciplinary
artist grimanesa amoro was installed at the tribeca issey miyake, a worldwide flagship store
in manhattan that houses all the collections of the miyake brand under one roof.

'light is one of my primary materials because it creates presence without physicality.
in many occasions, it can be easily taken for granted, since much of what humans
perceive comes from light, yet even that which is apparent can be mysterious. I'm always
looking for the instance when light, in its changing forms, makes us contemplate and
experience an ordinary circumstance in a different way.'- GA

I live in TriBeCA and have passed Aurora many times. May it be in the daytime or evening and sometimes 2 in the morning, this art installation never got tiresome or boring. Grimanesa Amoros, is very talented and understands the relationship between Art and Human kind. I get drawn into the piece from every angle and every type of light. I have spoken to the sales team at TriBeCa Issey Miyake, and they told me that store traffic increase along with sales. I guess this means that not only does Amoros create great art she inspires us to think out side the box.
