for use/numen at salone del mobile 2010

'RR chair'
vienna based design studio for use/numen will be presenting their new chair designs
at milan design week 2010 between april 14 to 19. amongst these pieces is 'RR chair',
a seating unit based on richard riemerschmid's 'musikstuhl' from 1899. beside the fact
that the chair is an icon of german jugendstil, its construction with the bold diagonal bar
presents an ideal variation to the basic static chair. seemingly identical, each
variant of the 'RR chair' has a specific form derived from the initial diagonal bar.

'X-Z'
'X-Z' is a deck chair design with the added feature of a sunshade. here the typology of
a traditional deck-chairs is extended with its removable sunshade element. the construction
of the sunshade is made up of a wooden frame similar to the frame found in the back legs,
resulting in a strong X form when the sunshade is open. the weight of the wooden cylinder
pulls the fabric of the sunshade to the ground, thus, allowing the user to push the sunshade
frame backwards. in doing this, any mechanism needed to prevent the sunshade fabric from
falling on the user is avoided. two 'pockets' are stitched on the striped fabric at the position
of the user’s head rest and under the seat. apart from serving as storage space for usual outdoor accessories such as towels, newspaper and swimming suit, this headrest pocket can double
as a pillow when filled up. the wooden construction is made of acacia wood treated with
natural oils. meanwhile, the striped fabric is made from a heavy duty cotton textile.

'add-on'
'add-on' is a sunshade extension that can be attached to any conventional deck chair.
here the design consists of an u-shaped stainless steel rod and an adjoining piece of fabric.
'add-on' is affixed to a deck-chair by inserting the ends of the steel tube into the holes,
drilled by the user, on the sides of the diagonal bars.

'YY chair'
after more than two years of modifications and technological adjustments, for use/numen
and moroso finalized their design for 'YY chair'. this product, manufactured by moroso
is being automatically produced with a 6 axis milling machine. the structure is made of a
massive, varnished beech or oiled oak wood. meanwhile, the cushion is made of foam
covered and upholstered with molded plywood shell.

the transparent adhesive tape were stretched between the construction zones. the continuous wrapping of the tendons resulted in a complex, amorphous surface similar to the growth of organic forms.
