fabio novembre: nemo

'nemo'

'nemo' is an armchair created by italian designer fabio novembre. here he uses his furniture
design to tell stories in which the protagonist is often the human figure (or parts of it).
this human figure is capable of becoming abstract and universal, able to propose a mythicized
beauty as often seen in greek art where heroes take on proportionate and divine features
in sculptures.
in 2008, fabio novembre brought a mysterious reclined lady to life in his 'divina' lounger,
and so with this new piece novembre seems to state the possibility of an 'anthropomorphic
design'. in fact, 'nemo', a face with classic features is hollowed out to create an inhabitable
space. the result is a head-armchair that similar to a mask, simultaneously conceals and
reveals its inhabitant. 'nemo' can be used in both interior and exterior environments.
'nemo' is currently being showcased at the driade store as part of milan design week 2010

Ok I don't like. ; )
Ugly no, kitsch yep @ 200%
but what is that in the model's mouth?
One aspect that struck me was the cultural heritage that the designer has drawn upon, is the Venetian celebration of the masked carnivale.
I enjoyed the inside reveal of the linear grooves racing through the form. I would just like to curl up inside one.
