as part of milan design week 2010, dutch designer piet hein eek is showcasing his past
and present collections at rossana orlandi.

in these glass lamps designs, piet hein eek brings new
life to old lighting units by recycling
them to create new forms of chandeliers. the
individual lamps sit inside a round metal rod
and are strung together in various vertical and
circular formats.

old ceramic bowls, cups and plates found from flea markets are unified into a complete
collection. while the individual pieces are diverse in form, color and taken from various
time periods, they are given unity through their color and finish.

in honor of the 50th anniversary of fair trade original, eek introduced a special collection
of baskets. the pieces were completed in collaboration with wood craftsmen and ceramic
craftmen in vietnam.

'scrapwood' table

'scrapwood', a table made from old wood pieces is one of eek's most iconic pieces.
coming out of his reaction against the prevailing craving for flawlessness, his intention
was to show that products did not need to be perfect in order to appeal to a human's sense
aesthetic and functionality.
in order to present this particular piece for milan design week 2010, eek experienced restrictions
in the small exhibition space to accommodate his large 'scrapwood' table. his resulting solution
was to group the individually parts of the table together and to showcase the piece vertically.
