'twist & lock' by harry thaler is a system that allows the user to lock special crates together
in order to create different combinations according to the desired needs. users can apply
the system in different ways, for instance, as a book or wine shelf.

'twist and lock' is currently part of the hotel RCA exhibition, hosted by royal college of art
which presents the work of students and recent graduates of the MA course. the exhibition
is taking place at venture lambrate for milan design week 2010.

Surely as they're only crates a few well placed screws would do the job -- also they stick out and would interfere with whatever you stacked on them -- they probably only work with one type of crate... useless

Oh for goodness sake. I did this at college in the late 60's with wooden 7-up delivery boxes from the grocery store and bolted them together. Thats about the time they stopped being used. It was great for hauling all of my stuff to the dorm and became a good 'bookcase' upon arrival. To offer this up as a 'system' really is complete pretention. I'm waiting for someone to attach the word 'system' to water or air next. Please! Twist and lock my arss!

Its a great little bookcase with simple means and a little bit of cantilever whimsy. So the designer used a buzz word.. somebody has to promote him. But yeah... "system" has a definition that is all to loose, and generally applied to anything that has a coherent part to whole relationship... I guess they should come up with some better vocabulary, its a ------ system?

While I like the idea, this setup appears flimsy (legs) and the balance would appear to be critical to anything placed. With a solid base (lack of legs) and the ability to create something that was 360 degrees, would be quite eyecatching d;-)
