ferrari world abu dhabi opens october 2010

ferrari theme park

the world's first ferrari theme park - ferrari world abu dhabi is set to open in october 2010.
announced as 'an intense multi-sensory experience and a must-visit for enthusiasts, fans and families'.
the park pays tribute to the passion, excellence, performance, technical innovation that ferrari
has established over the years and represents today. its iconic sleek red roof is directly influenced
by the classic double curve side profile of the ferrari gt body, spanning 200,000 m2 and carrying
the largest ferrari logo ever created.

ferrari world abu dhabi will host a number of attractions, including rides for children of all ages,
providing the complete ferrari experience: over 20 state-of-the-art attractions, each designed to
bring to life a different part of the ferrari story, including the world’s fastest rollercoaster, travelling
at speeds exceeding 200 km/h and emulating the thrilling sensation of being in a ferrari f1 car, or
the g-force experience taking passengers on an adrenaline-pumping ride up over 62 m, through
the roof and back down again.

the park is located on yas island - set to become a global tourist destination with a wide range
of accommodation and entertainment facilities - on the north east side of abu dhabi’s mainland.
abu dhabi, at the crossroads between europe, asia and africa, was chosen as the ideal location
to build the ferrari theme park, motor sports being extremely popular in the united arab emirates.
ferrari world abu dhabi will offer a unique and intensely fun way, together with a wide variety
of italian delicacies, and of course unique shopping experiences.

Just when you thought things in that neck of the woods couldn't get much tackier.
Shudder   05.17.10
W O W
Adrian   05.17.10
amazing !!!
smita   05.17.10
There is something about going to the sixth circle of human-rights hell for a theme park excursion that sends a real chill down my spine.
I'll save my money for Disneyland North Korea.
Daniel   05.17.10
:-((((( BUuuu
antuand   05.17.10
incredible!
Ivan   05.17.10
That is so very sad... A bad joke that wouldn't make sense even in Logorama (brilliant short movie BTW)
Next, Unilever theme Park.
Chris   05.17.10
wow it's amazing. However, it's the wrong way to spend millions of dollars in these hard times.
Hayward   05.17.10
I'm a huge fan of vintage Ferraris... and this is SO WRONG in just about every way !
Marc D.   05.17.10
The building is located on a plain desert, yet the form lets itself perceived only from a certain distance and height.
The view from the human scale does not reveal the "giant manta", hence all pictures are taken from a helicopter.
Waste of money on "bling-bling" architecture....
Ali Manco   05.17.10
who invites me to go???????!?!?!?!?!?
sil   05.17.10
i wanna goooooo
tildraev   05.17.10
Words almost fail me.
The expressions on Alonso and Massa's faces say it all.
Tacky but certainly not cheap.
Money can't buy taste.
Binnie   05.17.10
Ooo, so this is what happens when you have too much money and you are not allowed to go into night clubs :)
Vic   05.17.10
Utter crap.. Ferrari dont deserve such stuff. This is a blot on the Ferrari Marquee. I wish they shut it down asap.
Ashvin   05.17.10
What's the betting that this started out life as a giant Ferrari baseball cap! Absolutely awful... Just shows you what architects, whose job it is to make the world a more beautiful place, will do when you waft some cash under their nose.
RollercoasterTycoon   05.18.10
Amazing building. No doubt the taps are all gold-plated, etc etc.

But I'd still rather visit the Ferrari factory in Italy...
RRM   05.18.10
impresionante, lo que es tener petróleo
carlosbruni   05.18.10
u guys r so jealous its funny. U cant deal with the fact that a nation that began development 50 years ago is raping ur country up the ass and every other direction.
Muntari   05.18.10
Awesome building and great concept for a coaster. Yeah the jealous punks in here are making it too obvious lol.
DeepBlue   05.18.10
how could anyone say that the disign of this structure is tacky? i disagree
rendis   05.18.10
wonder if the haters would be saying this if it was built in their country! This is a design website not a moral highground. The USE of the building may be seen as tacky but the building itself is far from it!

As for alonsos expression...probably because he had to do something other than listen to people tell him how great he is!
theDude   05.18.10
Everyone who says something bad about this building is retarded. And daniel, you are very ignorant to think that abu dhabi is a bad place, even comparing it to North Korea. the UAE is way better than america in architecture and technology. The design of it is beautiful, though the red might be a little too much. This area is way wealthier than america could ever hope to be, so for those of you who think the middle east is all terrorist and poor militants, you are ignorant. Abu Dhabi and Dubai are two of the nicest places in the world.
Tyler   05.18.10
the structure reminds me of the giant blobby starfish thing from the movie Evolution. still, for a gigantic starfish with a ferrari logo, it looks nice.

ferrari is supposed to make cars, not gimmicky theme parks in the middle of deserts. maybe if they spent less money on architecture and more on research they could have a winning F1 team.
Im sure all the crazy ferrari fans from italy will flock to this theme park
alex   05.19.10
The building is OK as a style exercise - but really who gives a shit about a rich tacky company getting richer and tackier? Seriously who would buy a Ferrari if they had the money - they are the status symbol of people with more money than class, oh wait a minute - now this all makes sense!!!
Tyler Durden   05.19.10
CRAZY DESIGN ..!!!

I think its da Best theme park ever. It seems like a Spider or Octopus from an aerial view. U can easily spot the jet red clour in google earth too. Its Ferrari afteral so the quality will defi be prority. Jus to market n make it a hit m worried about the damage to get in.

Fantastic piece of Architecture.
Hardik Joshi   05.19.10
That is so sad. Mr.Montezemolo had it so wrong. Italy's future seems so dark when you see such interpretations of its industrial culture.
june   05.19.10
That is really...awful. It is just the most extravagantly tacky thing money can buy. You would think a company like Ferrari, with a proud heritage, which at least at one time was the benchmark of elegance, would have some restraint and tact as opposed to this crass mega-branded monstrosity.

Then again I assume its target market is 12 year old boys and judging by the line of argument put forward by many of those defending it, it has succeeded.

I don't think anyone here is jealous, we're just grateful this is not in any one of our respective countries.
cornballer   05.20.10
GREAT DESIGN.
FAIL IDEA.
SILESIAN   05.20.10
It is like a cheap copy of Foster's Beijing Airport. Even in the renders it looks ugly.
dimitris   05.20.10
Wow, A complete lack of taste. A sad day for Pop Culture and Italian design
Karl   05.20.10
impressive... but hideous.
jerry   05.21.10
OMG! I read all the comments above and most are so negative. Remember, there is no crowd on the leading edge. It takes wealthy and creative people to push the envelope of progress. Where would we be if only the "sheeple" who drive Chevy's were allowed to create? Lighten up everybody and enjoy!
an architect   05.21.10
Bad taste in a bad place.
thomas gravemaker   05.22.10
people are dying becuase they have nothing to eat...this building is the perfect proof that we lost the balance...very poor...makes me angry
Fritz   05.22.10
It is interesting to see how many people can sit back in their moral high-chairs and preach to every-body else about the funds wasted, 'poor people dying elsewhere in the world', tacky/ugly design, etc., etc.

Guys, take this from the horses' mouth, if you want to call it that way. I LIVE IN ABU DHABI as an expat. Have been there for quite a while. The place is moving ahead in leaps and bounds. I travel extensively and have seen a wide selection of cities and countries. There are lots of things that the city has yet to accomplished; but on the other hand, there are quite a few things that it has achieved.. and how!

Yes, it has it's fair share of defeated design ideas, however for every failure, you can count at least 2 successes.

For those people who feel it is wasted money.. please go elsewhere. Better still, stop complaining and if you are a millionaire/billionaire.. please donate it all to a good cause.

Cheers!
'bout   05.22.10
bout: oh boy, you live there, congratulations...that's why you already wear the Abu Dhabi glasses. Every faliure is one too much - so it is just right to articulate it (also vice versa).
Cheers
Fritz   05.22.10
Can the local culture withstand such big leaps in technological advancement? From Camel back transportation to state of the arts entertainment? Its sad to see the cultural destruction wealth can bring.
JL   05.23.10
Lord!! to see such colored talk! very honestly, one has to stay in the UAE to know its richness. and such nice people! as to them 'wasting' wealth, let me tell u this: if they spend lavishly, they also donate strictly. u guys have no idea of their charity works. so, do educate urselves b4 commenting abt any people. As to the project, i am sure it will be a big hit with all generations.
fasiha   05.23.10
The problem here is not Abu Dhabi, or how people from UAE spend their money.
The problem is how Italy is just ruining its own design/industrial culture. I just try to imagine Enzo Ferrari sitting in one of these ridiculous roller coasters. And it's a very sad vision.
june   05.23.10
ive lived in dubai for 20 years .. how have i not heard of this?!
DXBFTW   05.23.10
really cool!!!
alis   05.23.10
India will take another 150 years to make stadium of this stature. democracy means corruption, cheating the country in name of freedom, play games, india cannt develop infrastructure ever ever becoz of useless court who take one case to settle 100 years
Deve Gowda   05.24.10
I LOVE IT! I wanna go!!!
monica   05.24.10
These comments are more pathetic than youtube.
