the collaborative proposal by toronto based firm adamson associates architects and london’s
rogers stirk harbour + partners has been chosen as the winning design for the st. lawrence market north
building architecture competition in toronto. the new four-story structure features a glass atrium that
can be opened up to the outdoors in summer and closed in colder temperatures. the building also has
a covered street created in the centre of the site that connects to the south market building and the
historic st. lawrence hall to the north. the building will feature office space on the upper floors and
a green roof on top. a geo-thermal system will be installed to add even more energy efficiency.
the team’s winning design beat out 30 other entries in the juried design competition and is expected
to be completed and operating in 2014.
