atelier 37.2: mobile cubes
atelier 37.2: mobile cubes
paris-based micro-architecture studio atelier 37.2 has sent us images of a series of
mobile cubes they designed for french photography studio le petit oiseau va sortir (LPOVS).
each cube is a prototype designed for a specific function: entrance, hair / make-up, styling,
production. the materials used for each of the four cubes are: corten and plywood,
folding plain steel, braille perforated steel, plywood and books respectively.
you can view a video of the various cubes' configurations and adaptability here.

'production cube #1'
'production cube #1' is a massive plywood block that appears as if it has been carved
to display books within its walls. this unit was designed for the production team attending
a shooting.

'production cube #2'
this cube has a bit of a 'chill out' aesthetic / relaxing vibe to it. it presents a kind of shift
from the indoors to outdoors. the exterior is covered by oak strips and is designed for the
purposes of the production team.

'hair / make-up cubes #1, #2'
the mobile cubes 'hair / make-up cubes #1, #2' are made from 3mm micro-perforated steel.
the perforations are graphic and narrative. they create a kind of transparency which conveys
a sense of mystery within the cube's interior scene. these units permit privacy and intimacy
while allowing air circulation. one side of the cube has famous photographers' quotes cut out
of steel in braille alphabet.

'styling cube #1'
this mobile and folding cube is made of 3mm steel. it has a minimal look and can be
opened up into multiple configurations. it functions a bit like a dressing screen and eventually
can become part of a photo set.
