plans have recently been unveiled for 'beirut terraces' a new residential development
by swiss duo herzog & de meuron. situated in heart of the capital the project was revealed
to celebrate the commencement of construction.

it is the first residential development by herzog and de meuron in the region. the concept
behind 'beirut terraces' offers a revival of the urban lifestyle integrating indoor and outdoor
living spaces. the residential tower provides the platform for a vertical village where community
living and sustainability are key design features. the light and dynamic form of the building stands
out to differentiate itself from neighboring towers.

the tower will have 130 different apartments, each offering a differentiated living experience
including luxury apartments and townhouses.

the project is due to be complete by the end of 2013 or mid 2014.

Hello lovely
Joy   07.22.10
(for the) rich and layered with meaning ? much less intriguing than the miami carpark but the random floor lines break down vertical grid

looks somewhat like a post apocalyptic building after a bombing... interesting location, Beirut!

i'm from Beirut and we've been experiencing a lot of different residential projects , its becoming quite an investment here in the region. few are the buildings that add to the city , they tend to strip the area from identity and turn it into big concrete blocks. this one seems to break the rule ... hopefully !

Whilst the project on itself is quite interesting, isn't it a bit bothering that is a somehow generic? Look at H&dM's 56 Leonard St... or the Pyramid they proposed in Paris... it is like an idea in search of a site... Could be in Beirut... or New York... and if everything else fails... they will always have Paris
Medusa   07.22.10
Agreed. This could be anywhere, nyc, miami, paris, copenhagen, tokyo....

I think it's great for Beirut to gain something like this. Beirut used to be known for its beauty before strife took over. While a fan of more circular dimensions, this one is interesting to look at and for sure going to be a pleasant living experience d;-)

herzog & de meuron: YOU GUYS HAVEN'T GOT ANY BASICS OF ENGINEERING (BUILDING LIFE CYCLE MANAGEMENT IN PARTICULAR) AND ANY NOTIONS HOW THESE TYPE OF BUILDINGS PROVOQUE SOCIAL DISORDER! GO BACK TO SCHOOL OR CHANGE PROFESSION!WE DON'T NEED THESE "MONEY TALKS-STARCHITECTS" TO INCREASE THE UGLINESS OF OUR TOWNS!
Wolfgang_K   07.25.10
what's new? i dont think beirut needs more terraces..... :S its got much more important issues to tackle..
nida   07.25.10
proportions are damn bad. looks like a small fat person. but the idea behind it I like alot. some improvements please ((-:
DaHu   07.25.10
its very nice & fantastic
javad/iran   07.28.10
well- i donnt think its nice and fantastic on a herzog demeuron level- its just another failure like steven holes project which is a few 100 meter away or even jean nouvelles tower. well i guess if something watnts to be a landmark let it be one espeecialy if a developer highers ppl like H&D . but alas due to our building codes and regulation everything will get errected as a solid volume . my point is goo tottally crazy use technologies tha we donnt have or donnt do it cause any architect can do the same volumes and concepts but donnt have the name- i simply am sad of what is happening here lots to say lot to talk about
