the schelling architecture foundation has awarded wang shu and lu wenyu of chinese practice
amateur architecture studio with the architecture award totaling 30 000 euros.
every two years since 1992, the foundation has honoured individuals who have responsibly
advanced architecture's development with significant designs, realized buildings,
or with profound contributions to architectural history and theory.
having designed a number of projects such as the ningbo historic museum and the new
xiangshan campus for the china academy of art in hangzhou, amateur architecture studio
is being recognized for their works with local resources and, in particular, the poetic
and atmospheric energy they derive from the materials. the studio specializes in developing
new forms from traditional materials while opening up new fields of application.
along with amateur architecture studio, the french architect jean-louis cohen is being awarded
for his contribution to architectural theory. schelling medals are being given to the swiss
architects knapkiewicz & fickert and the british designer tom heatherwick for their respective
work in the field.
