'piraeus waterfall' by greek architects danir safiullin and irina prytkova is the second
place design of the 'piraeus tower' competition, which called on entries to reinterpret
the functions and elements of a facade. using water as the main material, the concept
creates a literal waterfall from the top of the tower.

starting from the basement of the building, the water is cleaned before it is poured
into a reservoir. with the aid of pumps on the vertical communication shaft, it is then
elevated to the roof. nozzles placed in row formation on the ambit of the tower release
the water, which cascades down all four sides of the tower.

a key aim of the project was to create a natural and dramatic solution to piraeus'
current issue with noise pollution while creating a strong, iconic identity in relation
to the nearby port and mediterranean sea.

the facades use modern agricultural techniques in its construction, essentially becoming a vertical park for not just the inhabitants but the dwindling species of birds and wild flora.
