the encants market, barcelona is thought as a place for the people, an open place. designed by JDS architects their first approach was to ensure that all sides of the market are immediately reachable and permeable. half of the market takes place in the interstice of space in between the roof and the ground/parking. the other half is compressed inside the roof 7 meters thickness. it’s a ramping space taking the visitors from the ground level to the very top of the structure, gently meandering upwards. the market can be visited in the same way as the f.l. wright guggenheim museum in new york city, by starting at the top and meandering downwards all the way to the large hall under the roof.
