roland hagenberg commissioned 10 japanese architect's offices to design 10 houses
as temporary accommodation for raiding, the birthplace of franz liszt, for the exhibition
'japan liszt raiding'. on a predefined surface area of 5m x 5m each, jun aoki, terunobu fujimori,
sou fujimoto, hiroshi hara, toyo ito, klein dytham architects, kengo kuma, SANAA,
tezuka architects and yasuhiro yamashita experiment with associations on building in a rural
setting. removed from the urban context the result is non-urban places of retreat that
combine individual atmospheres, materials and allusions to the history of the border region
of burgenland.

for their house in the exhibition tezuka architects were influenced by music.
the hinged roof opens up like a grand piano lid. the internal volume is
animated by the sunlight admitted through the angled opening between the box
and the lid. the opening is also used to ventilate the space.
inside, 5m x 5m x 5m cubic room is generously designed around a grand piano.
there is a couch that can be used as a bed at the back of the room, a round
table with some chairs and a grand piano. the large window at front allows
you to look out beautiful landscape of raiding. the sound of piano, the movement
of light and the scenery of raiding will harmonise and assemble beautiful symphony.
