"It's my view, I own it and I'll do what I like with it!". An exercise in how to wall off the waterfront from your neighbors. It should have been public open space but instead the community gets a house masquerading as a fish canary instead. Sad.

I concur with some parts of the statements above. This seems an exercise in ego. I wonder how the neighbour feels about losing his view and living in shadow. It looks like a 3 storey hotel, excluding and overpowering the rest of the village. Out of context and arrogant. Poor town planning.
I would be surprised if the owners had much 'human' connection with the rest of the viliage.
However, I am impressed by many aspects of the design. Very practical, clean and ideal for a shoreline existence - just not in this position!

I agree with a lot of the above. I find the building imposing in a non-empathetic form for its situation. Were it to have had curvature along the lines of the coast and hills around it, it would have been a more harmonious addition to its surroundings. Bleak, Brutal and non-friendly to its neighbors d;-)

Japan's coastline is about protection and there is a different waterfront culture which is reflected in this design.
Note the breakwater protection for the port.
Things can get very rough and wet.
