'paik nam june media bridge' by seoul-based architectural practice planning korea is a mega-structure
over the han river that aims to efficiently expand the city fabric on to the water. with a total length
of 1080 meters, the bridge connects the dangi-li power plant, which is currently being redeveloped into
a public cultural space, and the national assembly building to the south. the design proposal is a largely
sculpted form with fluctuating curves and volumes.

looking toward the power plant
in comparison to the thames river in london and the seine in france, the han river is a much larger stretch
of water that runs through the center of seoul. currently, there are close to 30 bridges running over the river
but a majority of the steel and concrete structures only accommodate for cars and city traffic.
'paik nam june media bridge' aims to accommodate for the walking and cycling portion of the population.
in addition, the structure will host a number of public facilities such as a museum, library, and an IT complex mall.
the bridge will also connect the people down to the water by featuring a series of docks for water taxis,
yachts and cruise ships.

looking toward the national assembly building
to generate a large portion of the energy used for internal programs, the bridge is clad in solar panels.
each floor of the structure introduces a horizontal garden that uses water from the river below, collected rain water
and natural sunlight and ventilation. the bridge is named after the korean video and media artist nam june paik,
and proposes to use the skin of the bridge as a projected canvas for media and video artists around the world.

This is INCREDIBLE...I can't wait for this to be finished so I can come back to Korea and take pics.
DreamEFX 10.14.10
Yes this is INCREDIBLY BAD and hugely over scaled and unrealistic...I hope Koreans are not hypnotized...
D. Bong 10.14.10
Is this inspired by 'The Host'? An gigantic organic creature...
Robert.t 10.14.10
Bridges are the most important architectural expression in Seoul. This is a fantastic addition to other landmarks and will be loved by citizens.
Esther 10.15.10
interesting concept, but the aesthetics-why so futuristic?
eun 10.16.10
it is great idea and design! We are planning a water science park in South China. If possible, we visit Paik Nam June to make design for us.
Satoshi Izumi 10.16.10
isnt nam june paik a korean american video artist from the 60's?
? 10.16.10
Stunningly beautiful. What a fantastic structure to live in. Obviously as much a building as a bridge. The passage along such a structure, via car or other means, should be very lovely.
rcvs1 10.16.10
a bunch of shiny blobs...is this what Korea needs?
V 10.17.10
wheres the warp engine gonna be placed? ;)
belgarat 10.17.10
What about detail and perspective views? Don't you think it's to litteral and look like cruise ships?
rave 10.18.10
What is doable does not mean it is good. I guess in future university have to teach what architecture is. I know what it is not, only to switch on a computer and to print what the program provides.

Korea has way more culture than to accept this blobby nothing which will deteriorate into a squishy thingy in no time flat. Every body seems to be so wating to get futuristic that building for the future has been totally lost. History shows that stuff made for its beauty and majesty has always lated over futurism.
Shabnam Akram 10.18.10
What a great concept!! I can't wait to see!!
Tyler 10.19.10
I say that , it's like a multi amusement bridge. and it is enough to be the symbolical bridge for Korea.
also... it is very unique and beautiful...
But, it has something missing in some points... need to think about more.
