italian architects massimiliano and doriana fuksas has won the international schematic design competition of ‘shenzhen guosen securities tower’, the first ecological tall building to be built in shenzhen. the entry beat out seven other designs including hong kong-based firm rocco design and austrian practice coop himmelblau.

the design explores new concepts in vertical public space within the structure and form of a tower. the facade features a three-dimensional void zig-zagging up the side of the tower, creating a number of different public scenarios within the office levels. along the continuous channel are meeting points, communal spaces and sky gardens, interconnected with an unbroken stream of natural sunlight. reaching a height space of more than 200 meters, the ‘facade atrium’ will be the highest lobby in shenzhen, china.

the atrium openly displays the activities of the tower, remaining transparent for the city to observe. the internal network of public spaces are strategically placed to correspond with the urban context beyond the facade .

the upper levels of the building include the office complex of guosen securities, with an access highlighted by a triple height sky lobby. the very top levels are dedicated to the executive’s office which include a sky garden and club room that offer a spectacular 360-degree panoramic view of the city.
