this year's young architect of the year award has been given to serie architects, a young london-based practice
founded by partners christopher C M lee and kapil gupta in 2007. with additional offices in mumbai, beijing
and chengdu, the studio has accelerated into wide recognition with a number of built projects and competition wins.
the architectectural association in london, where lee is the co-director of the 'AA projective cities programme',
is hosting 'working in series', a collection of past and recent projects by the studio. through their meticulous drawings
and skillfully-crafted models, one immediately gets a sense for serie's design interest and process: working typologically,
the works that arise draw from the cumulative intelligence of precedent types to be projected into new architectural
solutions. each project aims to organize and accommodate the multiple and often conflicting demands that typifies
the heterogeneous condition of the contemporary city.
