london-based practice tamir addadi architecture has finished an extension and alteration
to a private victorian house in islington. with the main purpose of creating a sense of unity
between the exterior garden and the house, the project extends and opens up the basement
level to the backyard space.

timber shading provides additional light into the basement
originally, the view of the garden was limited and the only way to access it was through
a utility room located between the basement and the ground floor. by excavating and
building the basement further back, the created lounge space merges with the garden,
providing a lively background to the conventionally dark space through a completely
glazed back wall.

from the back garden
the garden's floor level is slightly raised from the basement's, and features a terraced design
constructed from concrete for outdoor seating and planting. the concrete material translates
into the interior, blurrying the boundary between garden and lounge. a wooden bar table
also extends the garden's floor level into the space. timber shading above the table provides
additional sun into the basement. the new kitchen and cabinetry are largely finished in white
to maximize the daylight effect.

everything is so highly resolved except for that wall with the monitor and "hidden" speakers - ick!

The garden-house interchange is great, the new basement feels like a railroad car.
