located in sao paulo, brazil is 'querosene house' by local architect alvaro puntoni.
the urban site measures 10 x 40 meters

consisting of three storeys, the space is defined from the north face structure,
a parallel free wall which houses a library containing 7,500 books and another parallel block.
all closed spaces contain rooms, bathrooms and storage areas. to access the wall of books
metal platforms are connected to the service block. the design takes advantage of the difference
between the street level and the lower level of the plot, by positioning the living room in the lower
level which ensures the required privacy and maintains the view of the distant landscape through
the void.

the structure of the volume is predominantly built with masonry walls and reinforced concrete.
the finishes are monolithic concrete flooring and white portuguese stone.

one of the great brazilian architects of the new generation, and also a very lowly person: álvaro puntoni.

Carefull don't slip when getting a book from the top shelf its a long way down. Looks good but I would get vertigo in that library
leo   12.01.10
It´s a good spatial idea, anyway, Leo.
In Spain these protections are not valid; but the idea is very good.

I could so move in - love it, the spatial use and openness and all my books would fit (with room to spare) and be seen. "Books do furnish a room" as Anthony Powell said.

A question for "adriano paiva", above: why do you call the architect "lowly"?
peen   12.02.10
yeah, i have always wanted a library of books but this one somehow reminds me a bit of a jail :-(
G.   12.04.10
Some architects are more lowly than others but all considered, they are lovely persons when needing work,
-----this one made a nice house with manymillion steps--- and shelves

It's nice home, although uncomfortably similar to a cell block in a prison. And looking at the plans, the bedroom seems to be a *literal* prison cell. Even if the only thing you do in your bedroom is sleep, who wants the walls a half-meter away from every edge of the bed? I don't suffer from claustrophobia, but after sleeping here for a few weeks I might develop it.
