erick van egeraat has completed the 'vershina trade and entertainment centre'
in surgut, russia, the city's first five-star international shopping centre.
with a gross floor area of 37,000 m2, the complex hosts a number of services
in addition to retail and restaurants, including a sports hall, dance studios,
integrative parking and an underground nightclub.

facade

the seven storey volume is spliced with primary cuts in the facade which break up
the metal clad mass. the inset glass sections allow daylight in and radiate interior light
out at night. a series of secondary cuts completed in an extensive lighting scheme turns
the building's skin into an illuminating beacon during the region's nine dark winter months.
the expansive surface of the facades also serve as a canvas for advertisement to be projected.

the graphic cuts of the exterior is translated to the interior with the negotiation
of the layout: featuring a non-linear circulation, the space revolves around
an asymmetrical southern atrium with thin structural pillars rhythmically
piercing through each level.

Looks like a Daniel Libeskind building???
Anon   12.22.10
Interesting that he soesn't feature his building in Zuidas Amsterdam. Looks like the shopping centre but meant for bankers or law firms. Works much much better as retail!

add Libeskind to the ING HQ in Budapest with its metal ribbons on the facade and you'll get this. building the same over and over again, must be challenging.
