new york-based axis mundi has designed 'polyhedra', a cantilevering single-family residence
built on the edge of the palisades cliff in new jersey. rising nearly straight up from
the west side of the lower hudson river, the crystalline shaped dwelling provides
a panoramic view of the new york city skyline.

providing views of new york city's skyline

strategically carved to frame a number of different views, the 3,500 square foot design features
largely transparent facades. seamed glass with a light overlay of a solar reducing pattern
clad the outward-facing surfaces while anodized aluminum panels cover the back.
the asymmetrical polyhedron form also considers the topological conditions and
the path of the sun for natural daylighting.

interior - living space

the ground floor accommodates the main living space (kitchen, dining, lounge)
while the bedrooms are located on the second floor. a small terrace serves as
a look out on the highest level.

the carved form originated from a tower-like volume

I'm assuming this must be located above the George Washington Bridge in the NJ Palisades overlooking
the Hudson River- a spectacular location for a structure designed for a view. But I wonder if it distracts (or detracts) from the wonderful natural setting? That said, remember the old (s)addage; "people who live in glass houses shouldn't stow thrones!"

Also, it is awesome. And a perfect illustration of why JD Rockefeller bought up the Palisades and turned it into a park when he built the Cloisters. I believe that top photo shows the parking/turn out on the right.

hope this is not real ... although the structure is ok .. (not all that great really) ... the environment in the pics is mucho better and does not deserve a manmade right in the middle .. you will give away too much ...imagine 3 dozen of them right over the cliffs ... not too far away if this goes ahead ... really hope this is not real .. it is too selfish

please....build!!!
just sayin   01.14.11
looks like an ok student project (probably a B or B+ depending on the school) pretty naive version of a James Bond style house - I would agree to "hummms" comment: It does not fit the site and it is too selfish, I sincerely hope it does not get build.

wow that is awful, a naive rip-off of a Sanaa design on the wrong site and not at all sensitive to its surrounding: horrific.
On a second thought, "axis mundi" means 'axis of the world' could an architecture or for that matter the name of an office be more pretentious. Guys be more humble next time when encountering natures great scenery - who do you think you are, this really makes me sick.
