chile based studio, AATA arquitectos has designed 'cabañas morerava', a series of four cabins
located on easter island. the units which can temporarily accommodate up to six visitors
each, were designed to respond to the delicate and unparalleled context of the island. 

a fragile infrastructure dictated the design and construction process, paving the way to prefabricated
shelters that were produced on mainland south america, then shipped and assembled on site.
the long, narrow forms rest upon a raised platform, their dimensions calculated to eliminate waste
material, all in an effort to reduce the structures' impact on the land.








required functions such as power and water are all supplied through solar panels and rainwater
collection systems, minimizing the consumption of resources such as water and petrol that are either
rare or harmful to the island.

wooden slats extend to the edges of the covered porch, topped with an asymmetrically pitched zinc roof.
the otherwise linear form tapers and skews to meet the edges of the overhang, exposing a contrasting
wood interior and cross beam frame. utilizing a simple and linear layout, the living spaces are lit on both
ends and along the sides through strip glazing.
