white arkitekter has completed 'stockholm waterfront', a congress center located
in the heart of stockholm, sweden. positioned adjacent to central station and along
the riddarfjärden bay, the layered and undulating structure acts as a clear division
in the skyline between the historic city center and the dynamic new business district.

entrance
programmatic functions - including a conference hall, office building and four-star
hotel - required a site much larger than the triangular plot of land allotted, a detail
that commanded the overall design. subdivided into three varying properties, the
facility features a combination of intersecting volumes that slowly expand beyond
the confines of the site.

the undulating structure hovers above the entrance
contouring, ribbon-like sheets encircle and enclose the main unit, implementing a
sense of movement with the static form. suspended over the entrance, the organic
form which houses a congress hall, becomes the primary focus of the entire facility.
wrapped in a reflective veil of stainless steel strips, the outer shell hovers away from
the structure, further developing the center's distinctive character.

i love how the light reflects of the facade detail, looks slightly burnt :)

didn't realize were resorting back to ornamentalism.
The the dynamic surface treatment doesn't happen at the right scale or moment. Instead of cladding the ground floor with a planar glass facade, why not utilize the flowing forms of the screen to create a new pedestrian experience and organize public space that way. Strong idea, bad execution.
