LAVA: home of the future

LAVA: home of the future

internal rendering of the cohesion between nature and built environments

director chris bosse of the international architectural think tank
laboratory for visionary architecture (LAVA) says 'the home of the future
acts as a metaphor for the questions of our times, our relationship with nature,
with technology, and with ourselves' with the intention of balancing human needs
and nature's into one system. the geodesic sky dome will be begin construction
in late 2011 atop a mall in beijing as a showcase for possible micro climate
based living situations.

inspired from what nature does well, corals, cells, and bubbles, the structure
will feature 15 different living spaces recreating a full range of experiences from
vegetable patches connected to kitchens and bbq areas, and internal/external
bathroom zones to sunken bedrooms. the natural environments will have integrated
information technology as a means of electronic veins to the system.

cross section

the fluidity from one space to another is a cell-based strategy that can be modified
and applied to specific requirements. the ceiling construction is from ETFE a substitute
to glass and plastic allowing more light, better insulation, less cost to install, and less weight.

night time rendering of integrated lighting systems

an exhibition for the home of the future is on display at UTS architecture in sydney
from today until march 31st, 2011. including the documenting of process material,
working models, renderings and animations.

Utopia in microcosm, certainly affordable only to the plutocrat class, with accommodations, of course, for their servants, concubines, and wage-slave-laborers.

It's like Buckminster Fuller with a Tron aesthetic. Neither one is really positing anything new in this case.
Chris   03.17.11
remember all those times we said "in the future we will have..."
I think it is interesting to think about what parts of this projection will come to fruition and which ones perhaps may not. Though the optimistic point of view of this microcosm does make me think happier thoughts than Water World.

THIS used to be the future...
Tonegh   03.17.11
Sad that we envisage the future in this way, very sad!

This place is a Utopia. Men trying to bring paradise back.
Is not gonna happen.

I hope to live on earth with natural atmosphere, It could be good on Mars~.
Sung   03.18.11
@Sung - Mars lacks a magnetosphere. If humanity ever tries to lives there, it'll take some very thick, dense shielding, or, more likely, we'll have to burrow deep, like moles.
This buckytron design would be good for shielding us against a poisoned Earth atmosphere, though, or perhaps maintaining an artificial micro-environment against inclement local temperatures - northern habitats, that kind of thing.

the problem stays the same. fuller and lava build geodesic domes... but do they find a way to get into it?

the section is quite dull compare to the atmospheric renders, i wonder if the images with reflect anything like the final built project............
nj   03.21.11
good one...but seems out of world design....

We and the other life forms must live in/on the planet. Not inside of the other things.

Bucky Fuller combined with Tron... so what?
