real estate development corporation city corporation ltd. in the indian state of maharashtra,
has begun the first phase of construction of the amanora apartment city - the 'future towers'
designed by rotterdam-based architectural firm MVRDV.

currently, the southern asian country is in a rapid development to provide housing for millions,
which has resulted in many large scale monotonous residential estates. MVRDV has taken on
this challenge to participate in the development as part of the apartment city complex.

'future towers' has an overall structure that is hill-shaped featuring bays, canyons, caves grottos, peaks, valleys,
MVRDV's design combines amenities, public facilities, parks and a mix of inhabitants presented in the form
of a vertical city. comprised of 1,068 apartments ranging from studio to villa size (42 m2 to 530 m2),
the units are part of a larger scale housing development which measures 400.000 m2 that is divided
into a grander total of 3,500 apartments. each is set to attract a diverse mix of population to the new
neighbourhood with the ambition of creating a lively sub-culture for pune. designed in accordance with
modern indian housing standards, each of the living spaces are equipped with balconies and
naturally ventilated service areas, with almost each bedroom hosting its own bathroom. the general facilities
are interwoven to create a vertical city whose various apartment types offer housing to a diverse group of residents.

this first phase building is raised by a basement and plinth that contain parking and various public facilities:
a school, swimming pool retail, bars, cafés and a cinema. at the tallest point of the structure,
a sky lounge will be established. overall, the building follows a hexagonal grid to provide views
and natural light to the apartments. this allows the 9 wings with double loaded corridors to be efficiently serviced
by 4 cores. the interconnected courtyards are programmed to offer the inhabitants relaxing and social environments
with an herb garden, event plaza, flowerpot garden, playground and sculpture garden. between the volumes
of each of the three phase's, gardens are planned as a means of offering possibilities for interaction
and communal activities.

the facade will be made of concrete with large windows that will have sun protection provided by
ornamented metal shutters, allowing for natural ventilation between the facade and the many ventilation shafts
that cross the structure vertically. circulation spaces and public spaces will be clad in natural stone with balconies
clad in wood.

the 400 acre site is located 10 kilometres from the city core of pune, india in the central section of the
amanora park town development. completion is expected for summer 2014.
