london based studio, amanda levete architects (AL_A) has won the bid for the
'V&A exhibition road competition'. the 53 million-pound extension plan aims
to redevelop a space currently alloted to offices in london's south kensington
neighborhood. the design - part of victoria and albert's ten year restoration phase
entitled 'future plan' - would see the museum extend underground, subtly marking
the vast gallery space.



entrance


an undulating pattern, derived from the structure and richness of the museum's
collection, cuts into and rises from the landscape. glazed openings in the structure
interrupt the stepped terrain, revealing elements of the 1,500 square meter gallery space
that sits below ground.



corridors


the open courtyard, left relatively open by the sunken concept, will house additional
exhibition areas and public space for south kensington's drawing room.



exhibition space
