'HI MATIC hotel', matali crasset's latest collaboration with patrick elouarghi and philippe chapelet is now open.
designed to offer visitors a new hotel typology, the project looks to establish new methods of interaction and an
original experience for travelers.
distributed over five floors, the hotel houses 42 rooms of which there are numerous variations. combining the
aesthetics and ideologies of both an urban hotel and a country lodge, the rooms feature cabin-like modules which
can be adapted to suit the user and time of day. an integrated system of panels and storage is erected in the middle
of the room, re-appropriating the space and disconnecting itself from its surrounding environment.
the HI MATIC hotel is
part futuristic hostel, part japanese riokan. eco-friendly elements are evident throughout,
with organic paint on the walls, REN bath products and organic food for breakfast.
place of solitude. a platform bed in the middle of the unit remains low to the ground and acts as both modular seating
and a sleeping surface. simple and autonomous in their approach, the rooms - like to rest of the hotel - are free from
clutter and unnecessary kitsch. walls are void of paintings, and windows free of drapes, allowing the custom cabins
themselves to become the main focus.
