amsterdam-based architects seARCH has completed 'conference center in hillerød', an extension
to a monumental 14th century danish farm in copenhagen, denmark. conceived for novo nordish,
a leading healthcare company in diabetes care, the new center shares the same plot on which insulin
was extracted from the pancreas of a cow for the first time in history. the design draws from this
context by shaping its floors to resemble the animal's ear or leaf, creating a subtle motif without
sacrificing the quality of efficiency of the internal programs.

monolithic in its form, the extension generates a landscape-like surface by pulling up certain edges
and corners of the roof. the extension curves out from the original farm house, resulting in a open
courtyard entrance. finished with a natural palette of vertically running wooden slats, the sculptural
volume rests on top of a ground level clad in glass.
