rojkind arquitectos has unveiled their design of 'high park', a multi-storey mix-use building on
the outskirts of monterrey, mexico. seeking to alleviate the effects of the extreme climate,
the structure features shifted floor plates that create areas of light and shadow.

surrounded by the majestic sierra madre oriental range, the project takes advantage of the local
landscape by offering multiple levels of outdoor terraces with uninterrupted views of the mountains.
founding partner michel rojkind says, 'people enjoy the convenience of a house for its connection to
a garden or exterior spaces, which apartments normally lack. by having a project which integrates
not only terraces but real gardens - even at the upper levels - we have achieved an experience unique
to monterrey.'

at the ground level, the design steps back from the plot line to create an covered outdoor space
that can be enjoyed by the public. providing two levels for commercial opportunities,
'high park' consists of eight storeys of luxury apartments with recreational facilities such as
a pool, gym and a spa. the units range in size from 250 m2 to 650 m2 and will be finished by
six local designers to give each living space an individual style and atmosphere.
construction for 'high park' begins the summer of 2011.

While you have a point, I can't say that it's much different from many condominiums. The large balconies and offset volumes actually provide more of a connection to the outdoors than many other structures these days. I think it is relatively well done.
