hiroaki matsuyama: steor installation for spring collection 2011

hiroaki matsuyama of tokyo based practice minorpoet has created the setting for japanese brand steor’s spring 2011 collection. housed within an industrial concrete shell, the display implements a series of swing-like shelves that showcase the artisan stainless steel products in a whimsical and playful way.

accommodating a variety of products, the installation organizes itself into three distinct areas – seating, podium and hanging – which aim to shift and direct the attention of the visitor. matsuyama’s previously designed ‘snowroll‘ is placed in the middle of the shop, its softly contoured shape mimicking the organic nature of the environment while contrasting the straight lines of the surrounding space.

milky white surfaces highlight both the stainless steel objects and the varied vegetation, which quickly

becomes the focus of the shop. with the swings camouflaged with the walls, the greenery seemingly

lingers in the air, hovering somewhere between the exposed concrete ceiling and floor.
