preliminary plans for the serpentine sackler gallery conceived by london based zaha hadid architects have been unveiled. located in
london's kensington gardens, the renovation and development of the historic magazine building - once used as the army's gunpowder
depot - will be connected to a contemporary extension protected by a white cascading roof. this design generates an additional
900 square meters for the serpentine gallery's current grounds while reinstating the cultural landmark for public use for the first
time in 206 years.

the white form gracefully ripples downward to meet the earth's surface and then reflects skyward revealing gaps between
the tensile roof and ground plane. natural light permeates the transparent voids into the social spaces and cafe while the original
gun powder store contains the galleries. audiences will enjoy biannual commissions from leading international artists, facilitated
by the director julia peyton-jones. collections featuring architecture, dance, design, film, and music among others shall be exhibited.
