OMA wins competition to design parc des expositions (PEX)

international studio, OMA has won the competition to design the new 'parc des expositions' in toulouse, france.
located in the city's innovation zone, the new gateway has been imagined as a compact mini-city, an antidote
to the sprawl of standard expo centers, and a means to preserve the surrounding countryside.
the complex - which is set for completion in 2016 - will be the first public structure realized by OMA in all of france.

measuring 620 meters long and 24 meters high, the building has been conceived as a contained, virtuous strip,
leaving the encircling patchwork of open fields untouched. the unit, at once monumental in its horizontal scale
and subtle in its overall impact, will act as a zone for future developments, linking the river garonne with the airbus
A380 factory.

the monolithic new facility is organized as three parallel bands, each containing a specific and identified function.
the two outer structures - an event hall and a 40,000 square meter column-free exhibition hall - are set to house
rotating exhibitions, concerts and conferences, while the middle band has been dedicated to above ground parking.

clément blanchet of OMA states:
'this project is not only about architecture, but rather infrastructure. it’s a condenser for diversity,
a machine that can promote an infinite amount of possibilities.'

"First structure realized by OMA in all of France" ?
What about Euralille 70ha of Master Planning + Grand Palais, Caen (Bibliothèque Multimedia to come), Maison à Bordeaux, St Cloud (as s.o. just wrote)...?

@ james and thevzitor...
thanks for pointing that out.
it should read 'the first public building'. we've now made the appropriate changes.

what is the problem of copying yourself?
I guess If Oma won is because nobody else has done it better.
I like the model but the renderings are a little bit scary...
specially thouse with that superstructure over the sky
reminds my of that superstructures of yona friedman.
covering the sky like that is not a good idea i think.

what is rem copying??
sorry for the ignorance

@ Jayme/db
sorry to insist but you cannot even write the "first public building" as the Grand Palais- Eurexpo in Euralille IS a public building (1994-45000sqm) and the competition won by OMA in Caen for the Bibliothèque Multimedia is also a public building (though still to be built) has been won in 2010 before this one. Great project by the way. It will be a question of which municipality, between Caen and Toulouse will fire first... Back to politics... OMA will get busy on French territory for the next coming years, which is a good thing. In a way it will compensate for the TGB and the Parc de La Villette which proposal had been ignored in their time, in the beginning of the nineties...
