conceived by london based roger wade, 'boxpark' is a temporary shopping center located within the shoreditch district in london, england.
british practice waugh thistleton architects designed this premier 'pop-up mall' constructed of shipping containers and positioned the
structure within the former railway goodsyard. the architectural concept allows it to be adapted to other underutilized properties when
this site is ready for future permanent development. this gives the area a renewed, short term purpose as an impromptu node for shopping
and gathering while adding a fresh energy the urban context.

the configuration arranges forty containers for the first floor and twenty on the second floor for a total of sixty individual units.
retrofitting the interior for the needs of individual cafes and stores takes approximately three months at an offsite location
and upon completion, it will take one to three weeks to insert the module into the retail center. the extreme flexibility of the
transferable containers allows emerging retailers to become established and easily relocate to increase economic productivity.
retailers may frequently update their image with evolving fashions producing a diverse and dynamic atmosphere.
