after much buzz and online rumours about a new apple campus designed by internationally renowned
practice foster and partners, the official design has been released by the city of cupertino, a suburb
in santa clara county, california, USA. situated on a plot measuring approximately 708,200 m2,
the new headquarters will accommodate 13,000 employees in one central four-storied circular building.
included in the proposal is a 260,128 m2 office, research and development building,
1000-seat auditorium, 27,870 m2 research facilities, and a generating plant that will serve as
the campus' primary source of electricity.

conceived as an environmentally-aware development, the design increases the existing
landscape on the site by +350%. the majority of the asphalt parking will be moved underground
to make room for 6,000 indigenous trees and network of foot paths. the central courtyard defined
by the circular building provides ample green space for apple employees, integrating outdoor
elements into their corporate lifestyle.

aiming to provide a unified headquarters that promotes collaboration and communication,
the building is a simple circle form that has been extruded to four storeys above grade.
the vertical height of the structure has been kept low to maintain a human-scaled sense of space.

about the project.

Beautiful design, if only I lived in America so I could go and see it when it is finished.

"If you jump up and down in the eastern corridor does does that advance the playlist, and if you run clockwise, does that turn up the volume?"

Oh Dear, so misguided, so unrelentingly dull, it could spell the end of the apples creativity! Buildings do have that power, and a circular (infinite) loop really embodies placelessness. Apples success has been inventiveness - this building is as far away from inventiveness as you can get. Its more akin to the pentagon? What are they doing going all paranoid and sh1t?
CEMKM   08.16.11
I want to know more about this onsite electrical power generation. ?? What is it? Wind? Solar? Geo-Thermal? Coal? That could skew the environmental aspect real quick...
DES   08.16.11
They didn´t used the pentagon shape because they are waiting the patent of a pentageon shaped building to be approved so they can sue the USA goverment.
What?   08.16.11
Yawn, obviously foster & partners borrowed apple's bs guide, 'environmentally-aware development' - I belive its possible to be aware of something and ignore it at the same time. That's why apple asian factories are such nice places to work and their products last for such a long time...

only the super arrogant foster could come up with such a ridiculous building...

Beautiful but Master Steve is missing out on somethings
It should produce food in the garden
It should harvest electricity on the roof

Good thing.

The top of the parking garage IS topped with solar panels to harvest the sun's energy.

And regarding the onsite electrical power generator, it's natural gas.
