based in california and switzerland, XTEN architecture has completed 'nakahouse', a single family residence located
in hollywood hills, california, USA. sited along the steep slopes below the hollywood sign, the dwelling is a contemporary
update to an established home from the 1960's. geotechnical, zoning and budget limitations mandated the reuse of
the existing footprint and foundations as a basis for the home's new design. the interior arrangement was reconfigured
and a series of outdoor terraces were projected from all angles to maximize views of the surrounding landscape.

floor to ceiling glass windows and sliding doors blur the boundary between the indoor and outdoor areas extending
the living spaces to the terraces. exterior stairs lead to a roof deck with unobstructed views of the beechwood canyon,
griffith park observatory and natural ravines. the smooth black plaster facade intentionally creates a stark contrast
with the white washed surfaces inside the home. lacquered cabinetry, epoxy resin floors and painted metal produce
a monochromatic and uniform interior which blends the separate rooms into one continuous space.

usually the all-white aesthetic doesn't bother me at all, but here it just seems harsh

Sterile. One of those unfortunate designs that will look ruined when a piece of furniture is out of place, there is dirt on the wall, or child doesn't put a toy away. Nice view though.

Honey, I'm home. What's for dinner? We have haddock, rice, mashed potatoes, spargel, and milk.

stunning architecture and decor. LOVE IT!

I like it! A few plants and maybe loose the black rug . No need to try and pop, even soft color will pop and keep the pristine look. Even toys will look good in that environment. What better way to display art and furniture. Black & white is classic!

Nice design & layout but way too white. Perfect for an overcast day but those happen about twice a year in LA. The reflections would be blinding, the air con bill quite high, one imagines.

What's the dark-brown cladding? Attractive. Looks like oxidized iron that's clear coated.

Love it. Just imagine if you used color instead of all white! Soft neutral grays, or even wild accent colors. This ones a keeper.

Beautiful and inspiring.

White reflects heat away, so it will be cooler not hotter. Plus you can get a tan from the comfort of your living room...

White interior is too shiny!
it will hurt clients eyes.
